Patient Information
eToims® (Electrical Twitch Obtaining Intramuscular Stimulation System) is a unique, proprietary physical therapy for muscle relaxation and muscle re-education using the ET127 device. The eToims® Technique and ET127 portable device are the patented inventions of Jennifer Chu, M.D., CEO of ETOIMS Medical Technology, LLC and Emeritus Associate Professor in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at the University of Pennsylvania Medical School.
It can be used in treatment of muscle spasms causing back pain, fibromyalgia, neck pain, shoulder pain, and other common forms of neuromuscular dysfunction. The eToims® Technique is currently available at the Soft Tissue Comfort Center (STCC)® located in Philadelphia’s historic Main Line community, with daily, weekly, bi-weekly, and customized sessions available. eToims® is now available in the European Union and Canada and prospective patients should contact their physiotherapist or physician about offering eToims® Technique treatment session or purchase a personal-use device for at-home individual therapy.
The eToims® Technique is able to produce twitch induced focal exercise of superficial as well as deep muscles closest to the bone and joints to effectively stretch the muscles in spasm at problematic trigger points. This stretch exercise instantaneously releases the vice-like clamping effect that short, tense and tight muscles due to spasm have on the intramuscular blood vessels and nerves. Acute trauma causing reversible partial nerve injuries such as neurapraxia can thus be immediately attended to recover fully. Chronic repetitive or other injuries resulting in permanent nerve damage can be facilitated to heal due to improved circulation. The eToims® Technique through its ability to exercise individual muscles provide neuromuscular re-education and pain relief. Improvement of range of motion can result leading to increase in strength, balance and co-ordination.
