eToims manuscript on pain as a global health topic was accepted by the BMJ, British Medical Journal, for publication. BMJ is one of the most prestigious medical journals in the world. Please see below for additional information.

Acute Pain: eToims Clinical Effectiveness https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YS3B8wCCEnc Chronic pain: Finding Trigger Points with eToims https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xGuCDzdXb54 Twitches of Choice Rapidly Fatigue https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YAhYgaq9Ae0 When the BMJ publishes the manuscript entitled “Chronic refractory myofascial pain and denervation sensitivity as a global public health disease”, this will be the first public introduction of the association of presence of autonomous twitches of such magnitude in chronic pain as a result of chronic partial denervation. The importance and learning points for eToims is summarized as:

▸ Chronic refractory myofascial pain (CRMP) is a neuromusculoskeletal disease caused by spondylotic radiculopathies following acute or chronic cumulative trauma with denervation supersensitivity induced peripheral and central, mechanical and electrical hyperexcitability.

▸ The root cause of CRMP is neuromuscular ischaemia at deep myofascial trigger points in tightened/shortened/stiffened muscles from spondylotic radiculopathy related partial denervation that maintains/aggravates CRMP.

▸ Systematic reviews show lack of effective treatments for CRMP. Since CRMP is a global public health problem with a huge economic toll on society, governments of developed and developing nations should invest in safe, efficacious, cost-effective novel systems such as ETOIMS for its prevention and management.

▸ ETOIMS is a safe and efficacious innovation for repetitive, lifelong whole body treatments for CRMP management as a real-time preventive, diagnostic, therapeutic and prognostic armamentarium. It empowers patients in their own healthcare since it can also be self-performed.

▸ The commonly available sphygmomanometer is useful as an inexpensive, practical, objective, real-time pain monitor for clinical follow-up of ETOIMS treatments.

The Efficacy of Surface Electrical Twitch Obtaining Intramuscular Stimulation for Patients with Chronic Myofascial Pain Syndrome

Po-Ching Strong, Jia-Chi Wang, Si-Huei Lee, Yi-Cheng Chen, Rai-Chi Chan

Department of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation, Taipei Veterans General Hospital, Taipei, Taiwan

Presented at the Taiwan Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, Annual

Meeting, Taipei Taiwan, February 2013.

Objectives: To compare the efficacy of pain relief by using surface electrical twitch

obtaining intramuscular stimulation(surface eToims ) machine with transcutaneous

electrical nerve stimulator (TENS) in patients with chronic myofascial pain syndrome.

Methods: This is a single-blinded pilot study. Twenty patients with the diagnosis of

chronic myofascial pain syndrome were recruited. The patients were randomly

assigned to eToims group (n=10, mean age=56.2±7.6,F/M=7/3,pain duration=26.2

±16.4 m) and TENS group (n=10, mean age=54.7 ±8.4, F/M=8/2 ,pain duration=24.2

±14.1 m). Both groups of patients were all received 40 minutes treatment every twice

a week and 6 consecutive treatments were executed. VAS, pain disability index,

FABERE, SLRT, arm flexibility, algometer, muscle power, and microcirculation were

collected as outcome measures.

Results: The eToims group showed significantly better scores than the TENS group in

VAS during exercise, pain-pressure threshold, and micro-blood circulation. No

significant difference noted for VAS at rest, ADL and muscle strength.

Conclusion: Surface eToims has a promising role in pain alleviation, increasing range

flexibility and balanced microcirculation. It can provide a better alternative treatment

for chronic myofascial pain syndrome than TENS.

eToims® Medical Technology Launches Sports Development Program With Leading Football Franchise

London, UK, March 15, 2011

eToims® Medical Technology has announced an innovative Sports Development Program with a leading UK football franchise to refine and improve athletic therapy and conditioning. This partnership joins together the Sports Medicine and Science Department of one of the most recognized brands globally in sports with eToims®’s revolutionary patented system. Initial positive results include symptom improvement and enhanced recovery in individuals with nerve-related muscle symptoms.

Jennifer Chu, MD, Emeritus Associate Professor, former Director of Electrodiagnostic Medicine, Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Department, University of Pennsylvania Medical School and eToims® inventor states: “The club’s football players whom I treated with eToims®, all showed very tight core muscles making them hip, knee and ankle injury prone. Similar injuries occur in tennis, track and other sports but studies show that professional football is 1000 times more injurious than other high risk occupations”.

The non-invasive eToims ET127 device is used for surface stimulation of neuromuscular junctions (trigger points), in acute and chronic neuromuscular pain/discomfort conditions. eToims® reaches deep to produce twitch contractions of muscle fibers apposed to bone and joints. These characteristic twitches facilitate circulation to the deepest tissues by contraction and instantaneous relaxation of individual shortened, tight muscles, resulting in immediate improvement in pain/discomfort and physical function.

“The development of non-invasive techniques in electrodiagnosis is expected in 21st-century medicine,” said Bhagwan Shahani, MD, PhD (Oxon), past president of American Association of Neuromuscular and Electrodiagnostic Medicine and former Chairman and Professor Emeritus, Neurology and Rehabilitation Department, University of Illinois, Chicago College of Medicine. “I am excited that eToims® both mobilizes joints and relieves patients’ pain and discomfort. Clinicians are looking for new techniques to offer patients the ability to regain control of their lives by eliminating pain.”

Francis Bruyninckx, M.D., Director, Electrodiagnostic Medicine, Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Department, University of Leuven, Belgium explains: ” When too much muscle tightness and pain preclude the use of conventional exercise therapy, this treatment may still effectively exercise these tight, painful muscles–giving potential for eToims® as an exercise therapy over conventional methods. Unlike many forms of pain relieving medication, as a non-narcotic, eToims® has a unique and potentially groundbreaking ability to provide functional improvement with few contraindications and rare side effects”.

If eToims® successfully returns the patient to work, remuneration for work would exert a positive effect on family and friends. Some medications, by clouding the mind and not helping function, do the opposite. eToims® is compatible with taking medication and has potential to decrease the amount of or end pain medications.

Devices are now available for sale across the European Union, Asia and Canada. Visit http://www.etoims.com

eToims® Medical Technology, LLC is ISO 13485:2003 certified in late 2009 and eToims® ET127 Evoked Response Stimulator received the CE Mark.
